Your First Dinner Date

What Should You Order on Your First Dinner Date? Our friends at Sussman Honda rounded up a few of their favorite dishes to order on a first date, and we couldn’t help but share them with you! We all know first dates can be a little intimidating and cause some bouts of anxiety, so having a few go-to menu items can help alleviate one decision you’ll need to make that day. Here are a few of their suggestions.

Tapas- “These bite-sized dishes are not only tasty and easy to share, but they can also be a great way to get to know each other. If you’re sharing them, you’ll have to pick a few to split, which is an excellent conversation starter.”

Having a conversation starter is one of the best ways to ease any anxiety or awkwardness you might feel on a first date. And who doesn’t love to talk about food?! If you’re not a foodie, you can at least take comfort in the fact that tapas are easy to eat, and with the small portions, you’re sure to feel light and energized throughout the date.

Sushi- “Ordering sushi on your first date with someone is ideal when you’re prone to being messy. Sushi is nearly spill-proof and the options are endless. Not to mention, the ginger that comes on the side can help calm your stomach.”

The pros list to ordering sushi keeps growing in our book! Loading your plate with veggies, fish, and rice seems to be the ideal first date dinner option. Maybe you can even teach, or learn from, your date on how to properly use those chopsticks! Have fun and try something new, after all that’s why you’re on a date in the first place.

Chicken- “This protein-packed meat is the perfect lean choice to add a bit of vitality to any first date. It’s easy on the stomach and easy on the energy levels at the same time.”

A real go-to entree for any date is chicken. If you’re already feeling like you’re pushing yourself a little too far out of your comfort zone, let chicken bring you back to your safety net. Fuel up with everyone’s favorite meat, and let yourself focus on the person across the table instead of stressing over your meal.

Bowtie or Elbow Pasta- “The dogs from Lady and the Tramp weren’t the first to enjoy pasta on their first date and they certainly won’t be the last. However, they went wrong by choosing a stringy pasta that can make a mess. Opt for pasta dishes that have bite-sized pastas in them, such as bowtie or elbows.”

You’ve been given a real pro tip with this one. If you’re a pasta lover, don’t feel like you need to give this up on a first date. The truth is you don’t! Bowties and elbows are still just as tasty and usually can come with the same sauce as your favorite spaghetti or stringy noodle. You can now feel confident, mess free, AND enjoy your favorite dish on a first date. What could be better?!

Quesadillas- “Going for Mexican food is a great way to spice up a first date. The best way to stay mess-free while still enjoying traditional Mexican cuisine is with a quesadilla that can be cut into bite-sized pieces and eaten elegantly with a fork.”

Another pro tip for our taco and burrito lovers! Trade in the mess for a clean and easy to eat dinner option, while still enjoying all your favorite flavors. Another great thing about quesadillas is that they can be easily shared by two. Sharing is caring, and just like with tapas, you can create engaging conversation just by figuring out which one to order.
